Struttin' Your Stuff! with Latifa, May 11th
Improve your stage presence and performance skills
$80 for 2 workshops
10 am - 12 pm: Expression and stage presence
1 pm -3 pm: Work That Drum Solo!

On stage, we must be actors - larger than life. Everything is intensified. We are not our everyday, ordinary selves when we dance. We are magical, glamorous, exciting creatures. Just as we adapt our everyday hair, makeup and clothing, we must adapt our everyday posture, our body language, gestures and movement, and especially our expressions. These are skills that can be learned, just like putting on false eyelashes.

Latifa will show you how to project confidence, even if you have butterflies in your stomach. You'll also learn techniques for connecting with the audience, and how to develop your own authentic theatrical expressions.

Learn a fun drum solo from Latifa, and practice your expression and attitude! Music available for download, video permitted. Suggested student level: minimum advanced beginner/low intermediate.

Bio:
Latifa is an instructor and performer from Severna Park, MD. She studied dance for over ten years with the best of the best, the late Ibrahim Farrah of New York City. She has a Master's degree in Arab Studies from Georgetown University, and periodically travels to the Middle East to research dance, culture, and language. She is past President of the Washington Area Mid East Dance Association (WAMEDA) and co-founder of the Middle Eastern Dance Guild.

While Latifa loves all forms of Middle Eastern dance, her heart lies with the traditional folkloric dances of Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula, and North Africa. Latifa particularly enjoys Khaleegy dance, and is known for her expressive, relaxed, and playful interpretations of this style.
She is a sought-after dance educator who shares her passion for Middle Eastern Dance, history and culture with enthusiastic students, through weekly classes at Latifa's School of Middle Eastern Dance, local and out-of-area workshops, and focused private lessons. She also directs a 12-dancer troupe, Banat al-Beled.
